Citizen's Academy Program

About the Program
The Rancho Santa Margarita Citizen's Academy is a 6-week community and leadership development program designed to heighten citizen awareness and create better informed citizens who will promote a positive outlook regarding the City and community as a whole.

Participants must commit to attending 1 session per week for 6 weeks and the class size is limited to 30 participants. Sessions are generally held on Monday evenings, beginning at 6 p.m. and ending no later than 9 p.m. All sessions are held at City Hall or at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center.

The Academy presents participants with an inside look into how local government operates by providing them with an overview of each City department. In addition to learning about the City’s history and the future direction of the community, the Academy provides City education and leadership skills to individuals who desire to learn more about local government.

Upcoming Courses
The Citizen's Academy is offered every 2 years in the fall and it begins in September. Applications from all segments of the community are encouraged. Applications are available in July and are due in late August. Applicants are selected on a first come, first serve basis. Applicants who have been selected to participate in the Citizen's Academy will be notified by mail. Applicants that are not selected will be kept on file for the next Citizen's Academy.
