The 2nd Battalion 5th Marines (2/5) was adopted on January 10, 2007. The mission of this adoption is to support the marines and their families on an on-going basis, both when the unit is at Camp Pendleton and when it is deployed. The goal is to encourage mutually-beneficial interaction between the community and the marines and their families in order to render such support and also to create strong and lasting ties between the unit, residents and the City.
The Community Services Department works closely with the Family Readiness Officer year-round to coordinate volunteer assistance for events such as the City's Patriot Day Commemoration, the Battalion Holiday Party, barracks projects, homecomings, and other events and programs.
The department works to communicate and facilitate the connection between the needs of the battalion and local volunteers who are interested in participating or assisting in some way. In addition, the Rancho Santa Margarita 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines Support Group, Inc. (Team 2/5); a community foundation also serves to support service members and their families.
