Complimentary Kitchen Bins Available for RSM Residents

Kitchen Pail pickup display at City Hall

The City has a limited number of complementary small kitchen bins available for pickup at City Hall during regular business hours. The pails are designed to assist residents to minimize landfill waste and are funded by a grant from CalRecycle.

The City of Rancho Santa Margarita encourages residents to stop by City Hall and pick up a free countertop organic waste pail to separate organic waste (such as food waste) from other trash and non-organic recyclables under the organics collection program mandated by the State of California's SB 1383.

SB 1383 was signed into law in September 2016 by Governor Brown. The law established methane emissions reduction targets statewide to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) in various sectors of California's economy. In addition, SB 1383 establishes targets to achieve a 75% reduction in statewide disposal of organic waste by 2025.

The complementary pails, purchased with CalRecycle grant funds, are designed to assist residents in minimizing waste that goes into landfills.
