Community Workshop to Focus on Rose Canyon

The City would like to invite the public to attend a community workshop to be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center located at 22232 El Paseo.  The purpose of the workshop is to provide information and receive comments from the public on a proposal to designate Rose Canyon (also known as “the flower fields”) as a passive use park.  This property consists of the land located north of the intersection of Avenida de las Flores at the terminus of Antonio Parkway.

Currently, Rose Canyon is a vacant parcel that is being used by the public as a hiking/walking/biking trail and general open space.  The City believes that since this site is currently being utilized (in practice) as a passive park, it would be appropriate to designate the property as a passive use park.  Uses within a passive park are generally unstructured and unscheduled.  Passive parks may include hiking/walking trails, picnic/sitting areas, general open space and “people watching” areas.

The City foresees the opportunity to enhance the site through planting trees and native vegetation, constructing trails, adding benches and replacing the guard rail; however, intensification of uses beyond this are not anticipated and would require additional public review and approval.  City Staff is seeking input from the public regarding the designation of this property as a passive use park.  If you have any further questions, please contact Nate Farnsworth at 949.635.1800, x6704 or at nfarnsworth@cityofrsm.org
