Building & Safety 


Duties & Responsibilities

The Building and Safety Division ensures the health, safety and welfare of the residents and businesses in Rancho Santa Margarita by regulating the construction, alteration, use, and occupancy of buildings.  The Building and Safety Division is responsible for:

  • Reviewing building plans (Plan Check)
  • Issuing permits
  • Serving the public at the Building Counter
  • Inspecting building projects
  • Investigating Building Code complaints
  • Ensuring Building Code compliance

Plan Checks

Plan checks ensure that a project will meet Code requirements before construction starts. Plan checkers review code compliance for structural, architectural, grading, and fire safety as shown on submitted plans.

Inspections

Inspections ensure that all work conforms to the permit, local Codes, and the approved plans. 

Permit Center

Residential and commercial solar permit applications and plans can be submitted online using the Rancho Santa Margarita Permit Center.
