Election Information

The City Clerk is the local Election’s Official and coordinates with the Orange County Registrar of Voters Office to conduct municipal elections. 

General Municipal Election - November 3, 2020

A General Municipal Election will be held in the City of Rancho Santa Margarita on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, for Two Members of the City Council for Full Terms of Four (4) Years each.

Nomination Filing Period

The nomination filing period for City Council candidates begins on Monday, July 13, 2020 and closes on Friday, August 7, 2020, no later than 5:00 p.m. In the event an incumbent does not file nomination papers by or on the filing deadline of Friday, August 7th, the nomination filing period will be extended until Wednesday, August 12, 2020, no later than 5:00 p.m.

All candidates are encouraged to make an appointment with the City Clerk in order to obtain or file nomination papers. All filing documents are obtained from, and upon completion, filed with the Office of the City Clerk during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To make an appointment, please contact the City Clerk (Election’s Official), Amy Diaz, directly via email adiaz@cityofrsm.org or by telephone at 949-635-1806.

Voter Registration

Voter registration forms are at City Hall and the Rancho Santa Margarita Library. First time voters must register to vote. For more information related to voter registration, please visit the Orange County Registrar of Voters website.
