Special Event Permits

A Special Event Permit (PDF) is a temporary outdoor use that extends beyond the normal uses and standards allowed by the Zoning Code.

Types of Events
Special events include:
  • Art shows
  • Carnivals
  • Church bazaars
  • Festivals
  • Grand openings
  • Haunted houses
  • Home exhibitions
  • Large block parties
  • Pumpkin and Christmas tree sales
  • Sidewalk sales
  • Special auto sales
Permit Process
In order to obtain a Special Event Permit, an application must be submitted to a planner at least 30 days prior to the proposed event start date. Generally, the following events require a Site Development Permit:
  • Large events involving more than 500 people
  • Last longer than 10 days (or 3 days in a residential zoning district)
  • Recur more than 4 times per year
Please contact a planner for information on obtaining a Site Development Permit for large events. Along with the Special Event Permit Application, you will need to provide permit fees which may include a refundable deposit.
