Two new invasive species of mosquitoes found in Southern California.
The Asian tiger and yellow fever mosquitoes have found their way to the area through global travel and trade. These mosquitoes adapt well to urban environments and once introduced, can thrive in our neighborhoods. Mosquitoes only need ¼ inch of water to breed and they can develop into adults in a container as small as a bottle cap. Mosquitoes are the world’s deadliest animals, and warm weather enables them to replicate faster. More mosquitoes mean higher likelihood for disease transmission. To protect yourself and your community, tip all containers containing water, and toss out containers that you no longer need (and are simply taking up space).
