In honor of Rancho Santa Margarita’s 25th anniversary, local artists are invited to take part in a special Plein Air Art Contest—a creative celebration of our scenic beauty and vibrant community spirit.
What is Plein Air?
“Plein air” is French for “open air,” and that’s exactly where the art happens. Artists will paint live and on location, capturing the natural beauty and character of RSM in real time. Whether you're a seasoned painter or just discovering your passion for art, this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your talent and share your vision of our city.
Event Dates & Locations:
May 31 at 10 AM – O’Neill Park (30892 Trabuco Canyon Road)
June 28 at 10 AM – Lago Santa Margarita, RSM Lake (21472 Avenida de Los Fundadores)
July 26 at 10 AM – Civic Plaza/Central Park (22112 El Paseo)
How It Works:
Artists must complete a participation form prior to their painting session to be eligible for prizes. Forms and full contest details are available at RSMconnect.org.
Each participating artist will submit one painting per location for display and judging. Entries must remain unsigned on the front but include artist initials on the back. The artists must provide their own easels for display, and submissions are due by 6:00 PM at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center (22232 El Paseo).

🥈 2nd Place: $250
🥉 3rd Place: $150
🏆 People’s Choice: $350
The People’s Choice award will be determined during the August 10 Summer Concert from 4:00–5:00 p.m., with all winners announced that evening!
