Do you wonder what becomes of the green waste we generate? Here in Rancho Santa Margarita, it is taken to a state-of-the-art anaerobic digestor facility. This advanced organics processing allows for the green waste collected to be placed in a sealed vessel for “digesting” through complex microbial communities within the vessel that break down the waste and produce biogas and digestate. This biogas can be processed into renewable natural gas (RNG), an alternative vehicle fuel that burns cleaner and, in turn, fuels the very trucks servicing our community. The digestate can then be used to produce fertilizers and nutrient rich compost. This is what we offer back to our residents; the waste you generated given new purpose to bring life to your yards and plants.
